This new education program, entitled “Step Up to a Healthier You,” was created to meet the curriculum needs of 7th and 8th grade family and consumer science teachers. With an emphasis on the USDA’s new MyPyramid food guide, this program will teach students about sources of protein and the safe handling of meats. Included in the program are 3 reproducible activity masters for classroom interaction and discussion, a take-home insert with cooking tips and quick and easy pork recipes, and a wall poster featuring MyPyramid and the recommended nutrient intakes from each food group, based on exercise and age.   Pack a Powerful Punch with Protein

The National Pork Board is proud to present Pack a Powerful Punch with Protein, an educational program developed for Family and Consumer Science classrooms. This interactive program focuses on meat and protein and their relationship to the USDA's new MyPyramid food guidance system.

This "How to" guide is designed to assist you in integrating the Pack a Powerful Punch with Protein content into your existing curriculum. Detailed lesson plans and student activities have been prepared to help you enhance your teaching experience; however, how you choose to incorporate the materials into your classroom is up to you!
