My name is Luke, and my sister and I live on a farm in Ohio. Our dad owns a growing unit hog barn. We get baby gilts (girl pigs) when they are small enough to hold in your hands. During summer and over Christmas break, we help sort the bid pigs from the little pigs into separate pens. We also clean out feeders, water nipples, and the brooders (they heat up a mat so the pigs are warm). We built the barn in 2000 and I was only 10 years old. As we get older, we get more jobs with bigger responsibilities. My dad has worked hard to keep the barn in tip-top shape and to keep the environment clean. Thanks to all his hard work, he is receiving the Ohio Pork Producers Council's 2005 Environmental Stewardship Award. We are proud of what our dad has acomplished.More Pork Show-And-Tell Stories
